There are other related businesses springing around the Craigslist / eBay model, trying to cover up for the gaps in the current system. One such company is WeGoLook. It essentially offers local people who can go and take a look at the product you want to buy through Craigslist/eBay, and submit a photo, verify model number, and for an extra charge, test out that the product is in basic working condition.
The company has 5,000+ nationwide "lookers" who are background check verified. They will primarily look at automobiles, boats, antiques, cycles, trailers, heavy equipment, rental properties, vacation properties, etc. They provide a "Basic Look", "Preferred Look" and "Field Look" and charge $49 per report.
