Smartphones: Penetration and Impact

CNN.com ran a weeklong series on smartphones and their impact on lifestyles and culture.

One such interesting snippet was about Bud Kleppe, a 32-year-old real estate agent in St. Paul, Minnesota. Bud said he can't be away from his BlackBerry for any amount of time. He's more likely to sell a home, he said, if he responds to client e-mails within 20 minutes and to texts instantly.

1. 82% American adults own a cell phone; 17% of these have a smartphone
2. Mobile phone owners use their cell phones mostly for text messaging


3. Among smartphones, Blackberry has highest penetration, followed closely by iPhone
